Bill Olander - Twin Turbo 1382 rwhp 1994 Ford Mustang
Bill bought his first Mustang in 2002, it was a rare 1995 Cobra convertible with the removable hardtop (1 of 499). It started as a stock Mustang, but after the first year of owning it Bill decided it needed some more power. He pulled the stock 302 and went with a 351 based sbf stroked out to 427 cubic inches. He did a lot of street driving and made a few runs at the local dragstrip. The following year he added some NO2 to the mix and still wasn’t happy with the results. In the fall of 2006 Bill stepped it up a bit and installed a twin turbo kit, a TH-400 transmission and put down some respectable dyno numbers. The following year he entered the Dynomax Power to the Wheels contest and figured he would have to take it to the next step and ordered up a pair of PT 78GTS turbos. Bill went to the competition with that set-up and took 4th place with 1382 rwhp @ 31 psi on E-85. The following year Bill took that combo to the track and got the car to run 8.98 @ 158 mph at a weight of 4050 lbs.
Bill’s '94 orange hardtop that you see here uses the same motor and transmission, but now it pulls much less weight down the track. This setup has been to the track many times this last year working out the bugs. With 1300+ hp on tap you have to bring the boost in gradually, Bill has been tweaking the AMS-1000 tirelessly to get the car down the track without either smoking the tires or pulling a wheelstand. His first full ¼ mile pass on a drag radial tire (325-50-15) was a 8.18 @ 173. His best pass to date is a 8.14 @ 174, but plans for next season are to turn up the boost and hopefully get a 7.8X pass in.
